Blackford Bi-Weekly Number 20

KS1
Last year, Mr Moffat came to talk to us about The Future of Taru, a village in Kenya, Africa, where he was starting to build a school. Mr Moffat told us he was travelling to Africa this week so we made books about our school and the church for him to take.

KS2
The whole class found out what Chinese year they were born in. The children then drew their animal and wrote the Chinese character for it.

Blackford Bi-Weekly Number 19

KS1
In art, we have been focusing on self-portraits and have looked at self-portraits by famous artists. We have even varied the paper size and completed huge pictures.

KS2
In topic, we have discovered that the Vikings had many different Gods . We looked in depth at Thor, Loki, Odin, Freya and Frey. We also looked at some Viking stories about these Gods.

Blackford Bi-Weekly Number 18

KS1
Last week, we had our first visitor of the year. Nurse Melissa came to school to teach us about parts of our body. She also showed us how to put on a bandage. We are enjoying playing in our role play doctor’s surgery.

KS2
The children have begun our topic working about the Vikings. So far, we have discovered where the Viking’s came from and where they settled in the UK.

Blackford Bi-Weekly Number 17

KS1
In English, one of the books we have started is ‘The Hodgeheg ‘by Dick King Smith. We invited the Police lady to come to us about Road Safety so we can write to Max (the character from the story) to tell him how to stay safe.

KS2
In Science, we dissected a flower and produces some botanical drawings, identifying the different parts. We have also looked at life cycles of amphibians and will be looking at the life cycle of mammals and reptiles.

Blackford Bi-Weekly Number 16

KS1
We have been investigators this week and went on a search for mini beasts. We have continued to create moving mini beasts making snails and caterpillars!

KS2
In science, the children have been learning about the ear and how it works. We looked at the different parts of the ear with year 3&4 creating labelled diagrams and year 5&6 writing a report about the ear and its functions.
